Spatial questions, answered with evidence.

TB GeoSolutions is the independent GIS practice of Teun Broekhuizen. I turn open and client data into analysis, maps and web tools that planning and energy teams can act on.

Web tool for tracking local climate targets

EnergieSamen needed to see how far local energy production had progressed against the climate targets set per region. The data existed, but not in a form anyone could interrogate at the level where decisions are actually made.

I built a browser-based tool on top of the supplied geospatial data, prepared in QGIS and delivered as an interactive HTML map. Users filter by province, municipality or RES region and read progress per area directly: realised production, pipeline, and remaining ambition. A second view maps the national turbine stock by age, so repowering candidates can be identified in seconds.

The tool covers all 30 RES regions and 3,159 wind turbines nationwide.

Agent-based evacuation model, Helsinki city centre

A group project with fellow GIMA students: how quickly can the population of central Helsinki reach civil defence shelters, and where does that break down?

We built an agent-based model in GAMA, combining OpenStreetMap street and building data, Statistics Finland population grids and the municipal shelter register. Python and GeoPandas handled the preprocessing. Agents move through the real street network with walking speeds assigned by age cohort, across three times of day, so the model shows how shelter access shifts when people are at home, at work or in transit. The 3D rendering makes bottlenecks visible rather than tabular.

Services

What I take on for clients.

Spatial analysis

Suitability, accessibility, hotspot and scenario comparison — with the assumptions written down so the results hold up in review.

Geodata engineering

ETL, data modelling, quality checks and automation. Pipelines that run again next quarter without you calling me.

Maps & web tools

Cartography and interactive maps built for the person who has to make the decision, not for the analyst who made the layer.

About

Who you would be working with.

I work as a Junior GIS Consultant at EnergieSamen and run TB GeoSolutions independently alongside my master's in Geographical Information Management and Applications.

My background in human geography keeps me close to the questions behind the data: space scarcity, the energy transition, accessibility. The GIS side is how I answer them — Python and PostGIS for the heavy lifting, QGIS and clear cartography for everything that has to be understood by people who don't open GIS software.

Most of my work sits in the Dutch open data ecosystem: BAG, BGT, AHN, CBS and PDOK, combined with whatever the client already has.
